Summer Season Is Officially Over at Rainbrid Farm

Summer Season Is Officially Over at Rainbrid Farm

Hey there!
This past week we have really started to feel the change of season. As night time temperatures drop and day light hours diminish our summer fruiting crops production start to slow right down. By removing our capsicums and eggplants (soon the tomatoes will go as well - we're holding on) from the greenhouse we have made some space for other crops that will benefit from a littler extra warmth over winter as well as give the beds a rest before next springs plantings. We only have the one tunnel and its valuable space on our little farm.

We removed the capsicums from the above bed and planted beetroots, they don't need to be grown inside at this time of year but it will allow them grow faster and without pest pressure.

As the fruiting crops begin to disappear from the farm the winter brassicas start to take their place. Being our first time transitioning from Summer to Autumn we were a bit behind on a few plantings but are now back on track and we've never grown such HUGE broccoli heads. Cabbage, kale, cauliflower and peas (and the cool weather) are all things we look forward to over winter and these plus or usuals (lettuce, carrots, beets, rocket etc) are what you can expect to find in our veggie boxes and at the earth market over the few months.
